Nitish never asked for Tejashwi's resignation: Lalu

Former Union Minister came out backing his son amid reports of Mahagathbandhan or Grand Coalition would break apart today.

Claiming that there is no crisis in Bihar's grand alliance, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday asserted that his son and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav will not step down, as the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar never asked him to.

Lalu issued the statement after holding a separate meeting with his party legislators on the agenda of whether his son, Tejashwi, should quit as Deputy Chief Minister because of corruption charges.

He brushed aside reports of break up in the current alliance with the JD (U). He told media, 'We have formed the grand alliance, made Nitish CM. Why will we break the alliance?

Also, showing good relation with coalition partner, he said, 'Nitish Kumar is leader of grand alliance. We will not tolerate any disrespect towards him'.

The two meetings of MLAs of both the parties were held ahead of the monsoon session of the Bihar assembly. If things were fine between the coalition partners, the two meetings would have been clubbed into one.

Lalu Prasad on Friday had said that his son Tejashwi Yadav will not resign as the deputy chief minister of Bihar over corruption charges.

"The Vidhan Mandal of our party has taken a decision that Tejashwi Yadav will not resign," Lalu told ANI.

The CBI registered a case against Lalu Prasad and his family members for allegedly favouring a company during the award of Railway hotel contracts during his tenure as Railway minister.
