Nitish Kumar slams Cong, BJP over riots; loses out on AMU invitation

Patna, Jan 28: Charging the Congress governments at the Center and in

, the state's chief minister

said that the party was responsible for the anti-Sikh riots in 1984 and the Bhagalpur riots in 1989. The BJP government was also not spared as he slammed it for the Gujarat riots in 2002.

Calling them blots in the history of Indian politics, he demanded "those responsible for the carnage to own up responsibility".

Disappointed for not being invited to the inauguration of the Aligarh Muslim University's (AMU) Bihar branch, Nitish Kumar said that it was unfare to leave him out and invite Congress President Sonia Gandhi instead, to do the honours.

"It is highly objectionable to leave out the state government. It was my idea to set up the university's branch in Kishenganj. We gave the entire land free of cost to the university and the Centre didn't invite us,"

This has intensified an ugly battle for credit between the Congress and the Janata Dal United over the prestigious university.
