Nitin Gadkari On Live-In Relationships: "Could Lead To Men Having Two Wives In Future"

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has expressed strong views against live-in relationships, describing them as detrimental to societal structure and the balance of the sex ratio. Speaking on a recent YouTube podcast, Gadkari said that such relationships could potentially lead to significant societal and demographic issues, even suggesting that future governments might need to consider allowing men to have two wives if these trends continue.

"Live-in relationships are wrong. I went to London and met the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister. I asked them about the most pressing issue in their country, and they said it was that the majority of young men and women are not getting married," Mr Gadkari explained.

The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways emphasised that the absence of marriage could harm the future of any nation, as it directly impacts population growth and societal stability. "If you don't marry, how will you have children? What will be the future of those children? If you dismantle the societal structure, what kind of impact will it have on people?" he asked.

Gadkari further highlighted the potential repercussions of an imbalanced sex ratio, stating that it could force governments to consider extreme measures. "Society remains stable because the proportion of men and women is balanced. If this balance is disrupted, it could lead to difficult scenarios. For instance, if the ratio of women to men becomes 1500 to 1000, you might have to allow men to have two wives," he said during the podcast.

When asked about the country's need for more or fewer children, Gadkari clarified that the real issue is the responsibility of parents to raise children well.
