Nitin Gadkari gets late Gopinath Munde's ministries

New Delhi, June 5: After the uncalled-for demise of

, his ministries have been given to senior BJP member and the Transport and Shipping Minister,

. He will now also head the rural development, panchayati raj and drinking water and sanitation ministries.

In another important appointment, 8-time MP from Indore Sumitra Mahajan is also likely to be elected the Speaker of the 16th Lok Sabha on Friday. The newly formed House met for their first session yesterday, but adjourned on a sombre note over the untimely death of Gopinath Munde.

Nitin Gadkari will be responsible for these potfolios till the next expansion of the union council of ministers when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be declaring the replacement for Late Gopinath Munde. It is rumored that the expansion will be done in the next 2-3 weeks before the commencement of the budget session of Parliament.

Munde and Gadkari both hail from Maharashtra, the latter making his debut in the Lok Sabha this year.
