Niti Aayog, Island Administration to meet global investors to develop world-class infrastructure

The meet will be organised at Pravasi Bhawan of the ministry of external affairs on August 10 with officials of Niti Aayog and officials from Island administrations and other present in the meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had shown keen interest to develop these islands as tourists hubs and he might even announce something on this on August 15.

Sources said that two-three committees constituted by Niti Aayog to prepare report about the road map to develop infrastructure in these islands had already visited and they had submitted their reports to Niti Aayog. They were sent to these islands to assess the situation. Niti Aayog has asked administration of these islands to come prepared with their reports to present before the global investors.

Officials of Niti Aayog have already submitted their reports to the Niti Aayog that how to go about developing infrastructure there. Building construction, connectivity and economic activity are priorities for the Lakshdeep administration. Sources said, "Niti Ayog told us that for sea connectivity is their priority and it is working through Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. Kadmat, Mini Coy and Suheli island resorts to be developed with priority and Secretary to the administration will present their report before the investors.

There is another issue that needs to be done away with. If these islands have to developed as tourists hub, all challenges that a tourist might face must be done away with. Some restrictions have been removed about entry in certain areas. Now permit required for the entry into Lakshdweep must also be removed as this might proved to be a big hurdle to attract tourists. But sources said that let proper infrastructure be in place otherwise, we will be exposed to the world. With entry through permit, we are able to restrict entry to only that much people as much we are able to accommodate.

The Centre wants proper infrastructure in place in these islands. Sources said that private investors would develop infrastructure like big hotels, nice restaurants, recreation parks, water sports and many other things. The government is already working to develop better airport in these islands.
