Nirmala Sitharaman Approves Rs 2,534 Crore Amaravati Projects, Clearing Secretariat And Employee Housing Plans

In a major development for Andhra Pradesh, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has approved key central government infrastructure projects in Amaravati, the state's capital.

The total estimated cost of these projects stands at ₹2,534 crore, marking a significant step towards strengthening the city as an administrative hub.

Secretariat and Housing Complex Get Green Signal

According to official sources, the approval includes the construction of a Central Government Secretariat and an employee housing complex.

The Secretariat will be built on a 5.53-acre plot at an estimated cost of ₹1,299.08 crore
The housing complex will come up on a 17-acre site, costing around ₹1,234.91 crore
These facilities are expected to form the backbone of central government operations in Amaravati.

Strengthening Administrative Setup

The proposed Secretariat will house central government offices that operate in Andhra Pradesh, serving as a key administrative centre. At the same time, the housing complex will provide accommodation for government employees working in these offices.

This combined development aims to ensure smooth functioning of official work while also addressing the residential needs of staff posted in the capital.

In a parallel development, the Andhra Pradesh government has completed an important procedural step by submitting the gazette notification declaring Amaravati as the official state capital to the Union Cabinet Secretariat.
