It was followed by IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, IIT Delhi, and IIM Calcutta, which rounded out the top five in the management category. This year's rankings saw a record participation of 10,885 institutions, reflecting a significant increase in both competition and engagement since the framework's launch in 2015.
Other notable placements included IIM Mumbai at sixth, IIM Lucknow in seventh, IIM Indore in eighth, Xavier School of Management in Jamshedpur (XLRI) in ninth, and IIT Bombay in tenth position. The NIRF 2024 announcement was attended by key figures including Union Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, and UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar.
About NIRF
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and launched on September 29, 2015. It provides a methodology for ranking institutions across India, focusing on various assessment parameters.
For 2024, the rankings cover 13 categories, including overall institutions, universities, medical, engineering, management, law, architecture, colleges, research institutions, pharmacy, dental, agriculture and allied sectors, and innovation. New categories for this year include Open Universities, Skill Universities, and State-funded Government Universities. Additionally, the NIRF plans to introduce Sustainability Rankings in the next cycle.
NIRF 2024 Weightage Breakdown
The NIRF rankings assign weightage to several factors: Teaching, Learning, and Resources, as well as Research and Professional Practice, each accounting for 30% of the total score. Graduation outcomes contribute 20%, and outreach, inclusivity, and perception make up 10% of the overall assessment.
Recap of NIRF 2023
In the previous year, 8,686 institutes participated, with IIT Madras continuing its dominance by securing the top spot for the fifth consecutive year. Miranda House topped the college rankings for the fourth time. The top five management colleges in 2023 were:
1. IIM Ahmedabad
2. IIM Bangalore
3. IIM Kozhikode
4. IIM Calcutta

The NIRF rankings serve as a valuable resource for students and parents, offering a detailed evaluation of institutional quality across various academic fields.
