Meanwhile, the state government have initiated the procurement of the only available anti-viral treatment, a monoclonal antibody, through an order from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). It's important to note that this treatment has not yet been clinically proven.

In an effort to curb the spread of the lethal Nipah virus, the Kerala government has also issued orders to temporarily close all educational institutions in Kozhikode and other containment zones.

The virus strain detected in the state is identified as the Bangladesh variant, which is capable of human-to-human transmission and possesses a high mortality rate, although it is less contagious, as previously mentioned by the Kerala government.
