Nifty opens above historic 10,000 points

Nifty that closed short of a new record at 9,966.40 points on Monday opened above historic 10,000 points on Tuesday. Sensex also opened in the green 30.78 points higher at 32,276.65.

All sectoral indices traded in the green with the exception of IT and pharma early on Tuesday. Close to 919 shares advanced against 589 declining shares on the BSE.

In the banking sector, HDFC Bank shares touched a new record high of Rs 1,756. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hero Motocorp, ITC, SBI, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries were top contributors to Sensex gains.
