NIA Charges 3 in Chhattisgarh Attack

This recent charge sheet was submitted to the NIA special court in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. The accused are identified as Rakesh Bhogam alias Kunjam Umesh alias Badru, Madkam Unga alias Ungal, and Sodi Mangi. With this addition, the total number of individuals charged in this case has reached 49.

Details of the Attack

According to an official statement, the original charge sheet named 23 individuals in December 2022. This was followed by two supplementary charge sheets in 2023, which included 17 and six more accused respectively. The attack was executed by armed cadres of CPI Maoist under the instructions of their top leaders.

The assailants used automatic weapons and Barrel Grenade Launchers (BGLs) during the assault. They targeted combined teams of DRG, CoBRA, and CRPF who were conducting search operations near Tekalgudiyam village, Tarrem. During the attack, they also looted weapons from security forces and kidnapped a CoBRA soldier who was later released.

Investigation Findings

NIA investigations revealed that the three accused actively participated in the attack as part of a conspiracy to wage war against the Indian government. They were found to be in possession of illegal arms and ammunition. The agency stated that these individuals were active cadres of CPI Maoist at the time of the incident.

The NIA registered this case suo moto in June 2021. The investigation has been ongoing since then, leading to multiple charge sheets being filed over time. The agency continues to probe into the activities and connections of those involved in this violent incident.

The attack on security forces was a significant event that highlighted the ongoing conflict between Maoist insurgents and government forces in Chhattisgarh. The NIA's efforts aim to bring all responsible parties to justice and curb such violent activities.

The filing of these charge sheets marks a crucial step in holding accountable those who orchestrated and participated in the deadly assault. The NIA remains committed to investigating and prosecuting individuals involved in acts of terrorism against the state.

The investigation has uncovered vital information about the operational strategies and leadership directives within CPI Maoist. This information is crucial for understanding and countering future threats posed by such groups.

The NIA's comprehensive approach ensures that every individual involved is identified and prosecuted according to the law. This not only serves justice but also acts as a deterrent for future insurgent activities.

The agency's dedication to thorough investigation reflects its commitment to national security and upholding law and order. By bringing these perpetrators to justice, the NIA aims to restore peace and stability in regions affected by Maoist insurgency.

The recent charge sheet is part of an ongoing effort to dismantle the network of CPI Maoist operatives involved in violent attacks against security forces. The NIA continues its mission to safeguard citizens and maintain national integrity through diligent investigative work.
