Road rage on NH-74 as UP Roadways bus driver assaulted and bus stoned in Udham Singh Nagar

Police in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar say two motorcycle-borne men allegedly assaulted a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus driver after an overtaking dispute on NH-74. The suspects later chased the bus and hurled stones near Madiya Ratna, breaking window panes and alarming passengers. Kotwali in-charge Sanjay Pathak said some suspects have been detained for questioning.

Police in Uttarakhand said two men on a motorcycle allegedly attacked a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus driver and later threw stones at the bus. The incident, linked to a dispute over overtaking, left passengers frightened inside the vehicle. Police said the stone-throwing damaged window panes and created a risk for people travelling on the bus.

The incident took place on National Highway-74 on Wednesday afternoon. Police said the bus was travelling from Tanakpur to Haridwar. An argument reportedly began when the driver and some youths on a motorcycle clashed over overtaking while on the highway.

Police said the motorcycle-borne men later stopped the bus after it reached Gadarpur. The men allegedly abused the driver and assaulted the driver. People at the spot intervened and calmed the situation. The bus then continued its journey, but the matter did not end there.

Police said the accused returned with friends and chased the bus. The group again tried to block the bus near Madiya Ratna. Police said the driver did not stop the vehicle. After that, the youths allegedly pelted stones at the bus.

Police said the stone-throwing broke the bus window panes and put passengers in danger. The driver then took the bus to the Doraha outpost and informed police. Officers said some suspects have been detained. The suspects were being questioned about the alleged assault and damage.

Kotwali in-charge Sanjay Pathak said a case has been registered on the basis of the drivers complaint and strict action will be taken against the accused. Police said the investigation was continuing, while they verified the roles of those who chased the bus and threw stones.
