New Parliament Building Inauguration: Check Opening Date, Time and Other Details Inside
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will is set to inaugurate the newly constructed Parliament building, which symbolises the spirit of self-reliant India on May 28.
The new Parliament building reflecting the aspirations of 135 crore people is being built alongside the existing Parliament.

The magnificent structure spread over 65,000 sq meters can accommodate 888 MPs in Lok Sabha and 384 MPs in Rajya Sabha.
The Lok Sabha will be three times bigger with 888 seats and is based on a peacock theme, the national bird. While Rajya Sabha, built on the national flower lotus theme will have a capacity of up to 384 seats.
The new parliament building will house Constitution Hall, in the middle of the building, where a copy of the Constitution will be kept.
Besides, big pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, and the Prime Ministers of the country will also be put up.
The new Parliament is a part of the ambitious Central Vista Project of the Narendra Modi government.
Why the opposition parties are objecting to the inauguration?Nearly 20 opposition parties have decided to boycott the new parliament building's inauguration accusing the centre of insulting the top constitutional post of the country by not asking the President of India or Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar for the inauguration.
They also took objection to the timing of the new parliament building inauguration, as it coincides with the birth anniversary of Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
New Parliament Inauguration: Date and Time
- PM Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament building on May 28 at 12 pm. The ceremony will begin at 7.30 with a havan' and 'puja' and would go on till 8.30 am.
- The 'Sengol', a historical sceptre from Tamil Nadu will be installed near the chair of the Speaker between 8.30 am and 9 am.
- There will be a prayer meeting by Many great scholars, pundits and saints, including Shankaracharya at 9-9.30 am.
- The second phase of the ceremony will begin at 12 noon with the singing of the National Anthem. Two short films will be screened at this time.
- The messages by President Draupadi Murmu and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar will be read out by the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
- While a provision has been made for an address, by Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, he has however said that he would boycott the ceremony.
- A Rs 75 coin and a stamp too will be released on this occasion.
- The new Sansad inauguration will conculdes with the address by the Prime Minister at 2.30 pm.
