New Delhi: Woman kills daughter, commits suicide over disease

New Delhi, Sept 16: In a shocking incident, a woman from New Delhi strangulated her 2 year old daughter and then hanged herself, citing a deadly disease that her child was suffering from. Her suicide note in Hindi read,"Please meri beti ko mere saath jalaana."

"Meri saari jewellery gareebon mein baat dena (please cremate me along with my daughter. Distribute my jewellery among the poor)."

The incident happened on Monday night in West Delhi's Rajouri Garden.

Police said that 2 year old Gurneer was suffering from a rare disorder and was not recovering even when her parents spent lakhs on the treatment.

"The police have recovered the suicide note from their flat and have registered a case of murder. The woman, Vidhi Chadha, however said in her note that her husband is a very nice person and should not be harassed after her death.

According to the note, Vidhi was depressed that Gurneer was not recovering from her illness and that she had lost all hope.

On getting an anonymous call from a number, police jumped into action and reached the flat only to see that the baby was lying on the floor and the mother hanging from the ceiling. Her husband said that he found the door was fast locked from inside and that even multiple knocks did not get response. He was then forced to break open the door.

An official investigation said,"The child was not showing signs of normal physical development according to her age as she had liver problems and could not even walk despite being over two years-old." Pradeep is an area manager in an MNC and Vidhi was a Delhi University graduate.
