New Bengaluru top cop- Basic and not just social media policing need of the hour
Bengaluru, Aug 1: The appointment of N S Mehgharik as police commissioner of Bengaluru city comes at the right time. The new commissioner has been roped in as he is an expert at controlling the law and order situation and with the BBMP elections coming up, the city needed an officer who would get down to the basics rather than spend time on the social media.
Megharik in a media interaction after taking over said that the Bengaluru police were too dependant on the social media and had neglected slightly basic policing.

Time for some real policing:
Megharik a 1987 batch IPS officer told the media that the police in the city were heavily dependant on social media and had slightly neglected basic policing. The social media is important, but I feel that those who lack knowledge of the internet too should be heard.
"I will lay stress on undergound, on the ground and above the ground policing, Megharik said.
BBMP polls on mind:
The government decided to promote M N Reddi as a Director General of Police and move him to another department. Government officials say that this was done with the BBMP elections scheduled for later this month in mind.
Megharik has experience in handling such events and his recent stints in various places where he has handled local body elections are extremely impressive.
He is an officer who deals with the situation on the ground and with such an important election coming up, such an officer was the need of the hour, the government official also stated.
No subordinates:
Megharik considered to be a tough officer says that all officers will work along with me. I do not believe in subordination. Megharik also said that he believes in very little hype and more work.
Reddi had become a hero on the social media and there had been complaints that he reacted only to complaints posted on the internet. Megharik however seeks to change that perception and feels that ground level policing is more important.
The new commissioner says that his challenge for the moment was to ensure a free and fair BBMP elections. I have experience in conducting free and fair elections at the Gram Panchayat level and will ensure that the most important elections in the city too go on smoothly, he also said.
