India and Mongolia Must Identify New Areas of Cooperation to Strengthen Diplomatic Ties
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasised the need for India and Mongolia to explore new areas of cooperation to strengthen their bilateral ties. Speaking at an event celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations, he highlighted the importance of crafting a fresh vision for the future. "It is time to craft an updated vision of our future," he stated.

Jaishankar noted that both countries highly value the trust and confidence in their partnership. While acknowledging past achievements, he stressed the necessity of maintaining momentum in high-level exchanges to promote a result-oriented agenda. "Together, we must identify new areas of cooperation as well, which will produce a lasting impact on the future trajectory of our bilateral ties," he added.
Strengthening Diplomatic Ties
The minister expressed India's readiness to collaborate with Mongolia to realise this vision. He remarked, "Together, we can continue to build a partnership that not only benefits our two countries, but also sets an example for the world." He urged using the anniversary celebration as a catalyst for further achievements in the coming years.
Jaishankar also reflected on the historical connections between India and Mongolia. Despite geographical separation, he described them as spiritual and cultural neighbours, with their relationship rooted in Lord Buddha's teachings. Modern diplomatic ties have further reinforced these ancient bonds.
Historical Milestones
The bilateral relationship between India and Mongolia experienced significant progress in 2015 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Mongolia. This visit marked a pivotal moment as it was the first by an Indian prime minister. Jaishankar accompanied Modi during this landmark occasion.
During this visit, both nations elevated their relations to a strategic partnership, established new institutional mechanisms, and intensified high-level engagements. These efforts have resulted in a thriving relationship that continues to grow stronger over time.
A Model for Cooperation
Jaishankar highlighted that the India-Mongolia relationship serves as a model for South-South cooperation and development partnerships. He emphasised its uniqueness and how it exemplifies successful collaboration between two countries.
The minister concluded by reiterating the importance of identifying new areas of cooperation to ensure lasting impacts on their bilateral ties. The focus remains on building a partnership that benefits both nations while setting an example globally.
