Netanyahu Says He Spoke At “Great Length” With PM Modi, Praises India For Standing With Israel

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday said he had spoken at "great length" with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as tensions continue to escalate across the West Asia region following recent military exchanges.

Leaders Discuss Escalating Regional Situation

The Israeli leader revealed details of the call and expressed appreciation for India's position, thanking PM Modi for "standing with the Jewish people" in their fight against Iran.

The conversation came shortly after the Indian Prime Minister publicly confirmed the outreach and outlined New Delhi's concerns over the rapidly changing situation in the region.

"Had a telephone call with PM Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the current regional situation. Conveyed India's concerns over recent developments and emphasised the safety of civilians as a priority. India reiterates the need for an early cessation of hostilities," PM Modi shared in a post on X Sunday.

India Calls For Protection Of Civilians

India has maintained a cautious diplomatic line, highlighting humanitarian concerns while avoiding direct involvement in the conflict. Officials stressed that civilian safety remains central to India's approach as violence spreads across multiple countries in the region.

New Delhi also reiterated the importance of dialogue and restraint, signalling that it prefers de escalation and stability rather than prolonged confrontation.

Conflict Widens After Iran Retaliation

The leaders' interaction came in the aftermath of US and Israeli strikes on Iran that resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The development triggered a major response from Tehran.

In retaliation, Iran launched drones and missiles targeting Israeli and US military installations across the Gulf. Strikes were also reported near major commercial and aviation centres including Dubai and Doha, raising fears of a broader regional crisis affecting global travel and business routes.

Diplomatic Outreach Intensifies

The call between Modi and Netanyahu reflects increased diplomatic engagement as governments attempt to manage the fallout from the confrontation. While Israel seeks international backing, India appears focused on balancing strategic ties with humanitarian messaging and urging an early end to hostilities.
