Sanjay expanded the business into both passenger and commercial vehicle sectors. In 1999, Sanjay was awarded the Aaykar Ratna Award for being India's highest taxpayer, presented by Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha. That same year, Osamu Suzuki, Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, honoured him with the 'Best Entrepreneur of the Year' Award.

According to Architectural Digest, Sanjay and Shalini Passi reside with their son Robin in a luxurious bungalow in New Delhi's Golf Links neighbourhood. The home, shaped like a boomerang, offers stunning views of the 220-acre Delhi Golf Club. Thanks to Shalini's passion for art, the house is filled with beautiful sculptures, installations, and designs by Fornasetti and Gio Ponti, creating a museum-like atmosphere throughout.
