BJP Leader Virendra Sachdeva Promises Nehru Camp Transformation into Model Settlement by 2026
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has pledged to transform Nehru Camp into a model settlement with improved sanitation by January 2026 if his party gains power. During a visit to the Patparganj constituency, Sachdeva criticised the AAP government and its leader, Arvind Kejriwal, for neglecting slum dwellers. He accused them of failing to address the issues faced by these communities.

Sachdeva highlighted that over 50,000 flats constructed under the Rajiv Awas Yojana in areas like Narela have been left unused. He remarked, "It is ironic that, despite being in power for over 10 years, Arvind Kejriwal has not taken a single initiative to transform slum clusters into model settlements or improve the living standards of residents." He further alleged that Kejriwal's leadership has not brought any tangible improvements to people's lives.
Electricity and Water Concerns
Residents of Nehru Camp, located in former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's constituency, reportedly receive electricity bills between Rs 2,000 and Rs 8,000. This contradicts Kejriwal's promise of free electricity for the poor. Sachdeva also pointed out that many families still purchase drinking water, with utility costs consuming their incomes.
He questioned the efforts of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and other government departments in rehabilitating slum dwellers. Sachdeva assured that if BJP comes to power, every homeless person in Delhi would receive a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Commitment to Slum Dwellers
Sachdeva promised that slum dwellers wishing to stay in their current locations would be allowed to do so. The BJP would ensure the continuation of the Jahan Jhuggi Wahin Makaan scheme. He stated, "Every poor person knows that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided crores of houses across villages and cities. This is why every slum dweller looks to the BJP for solutions."
The BJP's commitment includes addressing basic needs like housing and utilities for slum residents. By focusing on these areas, they aim to gain support from communities who feel neglected by current policies.
Sachdeva's statements reflect a broader strategy to win over voters by promising tangible improvements in living conditions. The party aims to leverage dissatisfaction with existing governance to bolster its position in upcoming elections.
