Neglect Of Tribal Needs Under Marandi's Tenure Led To Today’s Challenges: Ramchandra Singh
In an exclusive interview with Oneindia, Ramchandra Singh, Congress candidate and current MLA from Manika, expressed strong criticism toward former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi and the BJP over their negligence in addressing the development needs of Jharkhand. Speaking from Latehar, Singh highlighted the challenges faced in uplifting the region and pointed out key obstacles hindering progress.
"Latehar was historically lagging behind, but we have gradually made efforts to push it forward step by step," Singh stated. He emphasized that in the past, outsiders would visit the area, make promises, and leave without meaningful change. "We made the people of the district realize that progress-whether political, social, or educational come from within the community."

Singh detailed the efforts made to mobilize the local population, stating, "We reached out to the people, rallied together, and started working at the grassroots level. Now, we are moving from the block to the panchayat, and soon we will be working at the village level to secure the rights of the people."
When discussing major challenges, Singh highlighted the issue of securing an NOC from the Forest Department for key development projects in the eco-sensitive zones, including a proposed dam. He noted that this requirement has made it difficult to complete critical infrastructure such as roads and irrigation systems. "Our region is part of a tiger reserve, which complicates obtaining clearances from the Government of India," he explained.
Singh criticized the tenure of former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi, accusing him of neglect that weakened the state's foundation. He remarked, "If Marandi had focused on understanding the needs of the tribals and locals during his time in office, we wouldn't be facing these setbacks today."
The MLA also addressed issues related to job opportunities, criticizing BJP MLAs for failing to prioritize employment for local youth. He pointed out the inadequacies in education and vocational training facilities, mentioning that projects like ITI centers and degree colleges had been promised but not delivered. Singh called for more focus on developing eco-tourism and infrastructure in areas like the Palamu Tiger Reserve and Netarhat, emphasizing the potential for boosting local economies through sustainable development.
He concluded with a strong message: "Our community deserves better, and we need leaders who are committed to tangible progress. I thank everyone for their support and urge voters to make a choice that prioritizes the growth of our region."
