NEET UG 2025: NTA Sticks To Traditional Pen-And-Paper Mode, Check Exam Details Here
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced that NEET UG 2025 will be conducted in pen-and-paper mode, according to a Hindustan Times (HT) report. The examination will take place offline, using the OMR-based format, on a single day and in a single shift.
This decision was finalised on Thursday, January 16, following detailed discussions between the education and health ministries. The deliberations centred on whether the examination should be conducted in offline or online mode. The National Medical Commission (NMC) decided in favour of the traditional pen-and-paper format.
The NTA released an official notice on its website, nta.ac.in, stating: "As decided by National Medical Commission (NMC), it is informed that the NEET UG 2025 shall be conducted in Pen and paper mode (OMR based) in Single day and Single Shift."
Considerations Behind The Decision
The idea of shifting NEET UG to a computer-based test (CBT) format has been explored multiple times. However, recent controversies, including last year's paper leak, have prompted authorities to retain the offline mode for now.
Since 2019, the NTA has been responsible for conducting NEET UG on behalf of the NMC. The examination is critical for admission to undergraduate medical courses across India.
Key Information About Seats
A total of 1,08,000 MBBS seats are available through NEET UG. This includes around 56,000 seats in government medical colleges and approximately 52,000 in private institutions. NEET UG results are also used for admissions to courses in Dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha.
NEET UG 2024 Overview
In 2024, over 24 lakh candidates appeared for the examination. It was conducted in May, and the results were declared in July.
Candidates are encouraged to visit the official NTA website for updates and additional details about the upcoming NEET UG 2025 examination.
