NCP (SP) Unveils Candidate List for Maharashtra Elections, Featuring Yugendra Pawar Against Ajit Pawar
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharad Pawar faction has announced its candidate for the Baramati constituency in the upcoming state assembly elections on 20th November. Yugendra Pawar will contest against his uncle, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Ajit, who is the current MLA from Baramati, will be running for re-election from his traditional seat.

Candidate Selection and Party Dynamics
Yugendra, aged 32, is the son of Shrinivas Pawar, Ajit's younger brother. The decision to field him was based on local demand, according to NCP state chief Jayant Patil. Patil stated, "I interacted with local people and party workers. According to them, Yugendra is a new face and can take everyone along. We thought he would be the best choice from our side."
The NCP Sharad Pawar faction's first list of candidates includes notable names such as Jayant Patil from Islampur, Jitendra Awhad from Mumbra-Kalwa, Anil Deshmukh from Katol, Harshvardhan Patil from Indapur, and Rohit Patil from Tasgaon-Kavthemahankal. Rohit is making his electoral debut.
Baramati's Political Landscape
In the previous Lok Sabha elections, Ajit Pawar's wife Sunetra contested but lost to Supriya Sule. Sunetra received 5,73,979 votes compared to Supriya's 7,32,312 votes in Baramati. This contest highlighted internal party dynamics and family rivalries within the NCP.
Yugendra expressed gratitude towards Sharad Pawar for trusting him with this opportunity. He emphasised his commitment to addressing key issues in Baramati such as water scarcity, unemployment, and corruption. He also mentioned rising crime rates and atrocities against women as areas needing urgent attention.
Upcoming Announcements
Jayant Patil mentioned that additional candidate names will be revealed in Mumbai on Friday. The party aims to strengthen its position by addressing local concerns and presenting fresh faces like Yugendra in the elections.
Yugendra acknowledged the challenge of contesting against his uncle Ajit Pawar but remained optimistic about his chances. He referred to the Lok Sabha election results as a lesson and expressed hope for a different outcome this time around.
The NCP Sharad Pawar faction is focusing on rejuvenating its image by introducing new candidates while addressing pressing issues in constituencies like Baramati. This strategy aims to resonate with voters seeking change and effective representation in their region.
