NCP Slams MP Lanke for Visit to Criminal Gajanan Marne's Residence

In a recent development that has stirred controversy within political circles, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has openly criticized its rival faction, the NCP SP, following an incident involving their newly elected MP, Nilesh Lanke. The contention arose after Lanke was seen visiting the residence of Gajanan Marne, a figure with a notorious criminal background, in Pune on June 14. This visit has sparked a debate on the ethical considerations of political associations and the implications for public trust in elected officials.

MP Lankes Visit Sparks Controversy

Nilesh Lanke, who represents Ahmednagar in the Lok Sabha, found himself at the center of controversy when a video surfaced on social media showing him being felicitated by Marne, who is implicated in several criminal cases. Lanke later clarified that his visit was unintentional, stating he was unaware of Marne's criminal history and had only stopped by to pay respects at an associate's family gathering nearby.

The incident has prompted NCP leader Amol Mitkari to question the silence of the NCP SP regarding Lanke's actions. Mitkari drew parallels to a similar situation months ago involving Parth Pawar, son of NCP president and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Parth's visit to Marne's house had previously led to public criticism from Ajit Pawar, who advised against engaging with individuals known for criminal activities.

Mitkari raised concerns about the potential involvement of criminal elements in political campaigns, specifically questioning whether Marne's support contributed to the NCP SP's victories in the Ahmednagar and Baramati Lok Sabha seats. These elections saw Lanke defeating BJP's incumbent MP Sujay Vikhe Patil and Supriya Sule securing her fourth consecutive win against Sunetra Pawar, Ajit Pawar’s wife.

In defense of his actions, Lanke explained his presence at Marne's house as a result of social obligations and clarified that he was unaware of Marne's criminal record until after the visit. This explanation, however, has done little to quell the controversy surrounding his visit.

NCP SP leader Vidya Chavan expressed her intention to discuss the matter with Lanke directly, emphasizing that wrongdoing should be acknowledged and addressed regardless of the individual involved. This incident has highlighted the complex interplay between politics and ethical conduct, raising questions about the judgment and associations of public representatives.

The unfolding situation underscores a broader debate on political integrity and accountability, as leaders navigate their relationships within their communities while upholding ethical standards. As this story develops, it remains to be seen how it will impact public perception and internal dynamics within the NCP factions.
