NCP backs Lalit Modi, says he cannot be called 'absconder'
New Delhi, Jun 28: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Saturday came out in support of beleaguered former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi, saying he cannot be called an "absconder" as he is yet to be found guilty of any charges.
"So far Lalit Modi has not been found guilty of even the smallest offence. So, he could not have been said to be a defaulter or an absconder," senior party leader and advocate Majeed Memon said.

The party's assertion comes at a time when BJP has backed Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje facing allegations of her alleged links with Modi.

Unfazed by the mounting Congress demand for Raje's resignation, the BJP continued to defend the Chief Minister with its spokesman Sudhanshu Trivedi asserting that there is "no substance" in the rival party's allegations.
