NBEMS Collaborates with DMs for NEET-PG 2024 Integrity Amidst Leak Claims

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has requested district administrations to ensure the smooth conduct of the NEET PG 2024 on August 11. This is to maintain the exam's integrity and sanctity. However, the All FMGs Association (AFA), representing foreign medical graduates, shared this letter on X on August 3, raising concerns about its confidentiality.

NBEMS Acts on NEET-PG Integrity

In a letter dated August 1, NBEMS President Dr. Abhijat Sheth emphasised the critical nature of the NEET PG exam. He highlighted its significant impact on the academic and professional futures of many medical students. The letter stressed the importance of conducting the exam securely and without interruptions.

Ensuring Smooth Conduct

Dr. Sheth's letter sought support for conducting this high-stakes examination smoothly. The NEET PG 2024 will be held nationwide by NBEMS for 2,28,542 candidates at 376 centres in 169 cities. He requested continuous power supply at all centres during exam hours to maintain electronic systems and lighting, preventing disruptions that could affect candidates' performance.

He also mentioned that although the exam is conducted on computers connected over a LAN with no Internet connectivity during the exam, Internet availability is crucial before and after the exam. The Internet is needed to download encrypted question papers before the exam starts and upload candidate responses and other data to central data centres afterwards.

Security Measures

Dr. Sheth also asked for help in maintaining law and order around examination centres. Given the high stakes, he stressed deploying adequate security personnel to manage crowds and traffic and prevent any untoward incidents. He requested directing state functionaries to take all possible measures to preserve the exam's integrity and sanctity.

The letter included a detailed schedule of the examination, listing all centre locations shared with district administrations. Dr. Sheth expressed confidence that with their support, the examination would be conducted successfully without any incidents affecting students in their districts.

The AFA questioned the security of the NEET PG paper after sharing the letter publicly. They stated, "It appears that a confidential letter from NBEMS has been leaked in public, containing information about the exam shift and the number of students taking the exam. If a confidential letter can be leaked, can we be confident about the security of the NEET PG paper?"

Official sources clarified that the letter contained general instructions and that concerns about its leak were unnecessary. They maintained that no sensitive information had been compromised.

Dr. Sheth's letter also requested district administrations to observe the conduct of exams at test centres within their jurisdiction. He emphasised that their support would be instrumental in facilitating a seamless examination process and greatly contribute to upholding its credibility and fairness.

The NBEMS has been entrusted with conducting NEET PG 2024, which assumes national importance due to its impact on medical students' futures. Ensuring a secure and uninterrupted process is imperative for maintaining trust in this critical examination.
