Indian Navy's Republic Day Tableau to Feature Newly Commissioned Warships and Submarine

The Indian Navy is set to feature prominently at the 76th Republic Day parade, highlighting its latest additions: warships INS Surat and INS Nilgiri, along with submarine INS Vaghsheer. The Navy's tableau will carry the theme "Atmanirbhar Nausena se Rashtra Nirman," showcasing India's naval strength and self-reliance. This display aims to reflect the country's growing maritime capabilities and commitment to defence manufacturing.

Navys R-Day Tableau Showcases New Combatants

Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty shared insights into the tableau's significance, noting that it represents India's naval prowess and self-reliance. The tableau will be commanded by Lt Cdr Mamta Sihag and Lt Vipul Singh Gahlaut. Additionally, a mixed marching contingent, led by Lt Cdr Saahil Ahluwalia, will participate in the parade. This contingent includes 144 young personnel, with an average age of 25 years, who have undergone rigorous training for over two months.

Focus on Indigenous Defence Manufacturing

The commissioning of these three naval combatants marks a significant step towards India's vision of becoming a global leader in defence manufacturing. INS Surat is part of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project and boasts 75% indigenous content. It features advanced weapon-sensor packages and network-centric capabilities. INS Nilgiri, from the P17A Stealth Frigate Project, showcases enhanced survivability and stealth features, designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau.

INS Vaghsheer, the final submarine of the P75 Scorpene Project, highlights India's growing expertise in submarine construction. It was built in collaboration with France's Naval Group. Vice Admiral McCarty emphasised that these achievements reflect India's emerging maritime context and self-reliant approach. The tableau will depict this historic scene, illustrating India's commitment to economic prosperity and security.

Prime Minister's Vision for Economic Impact

During a recent address at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the economic benefits of shipbuilding. He noted that every rupee invested in this sector has a nearly double positive impact on the economy. Currently, 60 large ships are under construction in India, valued at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh crore. This investment is expected to generate an economic circulation of around Rs 3 lakh crore and create significant employment opportunities.

The Indian Navy band will also play a key role in the Republic Day celebrations. Led by MCPO Musician first class M Antony Raj, the band consists of 80 musicians, including six women for the first time. Their performance at the Beating Retreat on January 29 will feature soul-stirring tunes and impressive formations. Vice Admiral McCarty expressed pride in this diverse representation within the band.

The Indian Navy's participation in the Republic Day parade underscores its dual role in ensuring maritime security and contributing to economic growth. As India progresses towards becoming a developed nation, a strong and self-reliant navy remains essential for both security and prosperity. The Navy's efforts align with national goals of achieving economic prosperity through indigenous defence manufacturing.
