Gautam Adani Welcomes First Passengers as Navi Mumbai International Airport Begins Commercial Operations

Navi Mumbai International Airport commenced its first commercial airside operations, with Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani greeting passengers, participating in a flag-hoisting ceremony, and celebrating the inaugural Indigo flight arrivals and departures, signalling a major step for Mumbai's aviation infrastructure.

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) witnessed a landmark day forIndian aviation as it commenced its first commercial airside operations,with Adani Group Chairman *Mr Gautam Adani* personally welcoming passengersduring the historic inauguration.

Marking the occasion, Mr Adani was seen meeting and greeting passengers atthe terminal, interacting with travellers, and congratulating them forbeing part of NMIA’s first commercial flight operations. In a symbolicgesture highlighting the airport’s readiness and national significance, healso participated in a *flag-hoisting ceremony*, underscoring the project’simportance to India’s growing aviation infrastructure.

Passengers travelling on the inaugural flights were further greeted with aspecial surprise as *boarding passes were ceremonially distributed*,creating a memorable experience for those present at the airport on itsfirst day of scheduled operations. Visuals from the event captured Mr Adaniengaging with families, first-time flyers, and airline staff, reflectingthe celebratory atmosphere at the new greenfield airport.

The inaugural commercial arrival — *IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru* —landed at *08:00 hours* and was accorded a traditional *water cannon salute*,followed by the airport’s first departure, *IndiGo flight 6E882 toHyderabad*, which took off at *08:40 hours*. Together, the two flightscompleted NMIA’s first operational arrival and departure cycle.

The launch of passenger services at NMIA marks a transformative moment forthe *Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR)*, offering much-needed capacityexpansion and easing pressure on Mumbai’s primary airport. Developed toglobal standards, NMIA is expected to play a key role in supportingeconomic growth, job creation, and enhanced regional connectivity.
