Industrialist Naveen Jindal Switches to BJP, Eyes Kurukshetra Seat; Ranjit Chautala Joins for Hisar

In a significant political development on March 24, New Delhi and Chandigarh witnessed the joining of industrialist and former Congress MP Naveen Jindal, along with Independent MLA from Haryana, Ranjit Chautala, to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This move comes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, with both being named as the party's candidates from Kurukshetra and Hisar Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, respectively. Ranjit Chautala, aged 78, currently serves as a minister in the BJP-led Haryana government. He is also recognized for his familial political lineage as the son of former deputy prime minister Devi Lal and brother to Om Prakash Chautala, chief of the Indian National Lok Dal and former chief minister of Haryana.

Jindal and Chautala Join BJP for Elections

Naveen Jindal, who has previously represented Kurukshetra in the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2014 under the Congress banner, expressed his departure from the opposition party with a desire to contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a developed India. His joining was formalized at the BJP's Delhi headquarters in the presence of general secretary Vinod Tawde. Jindal cited India's progress under Modi's leadership over the past decade, highlighting significant steps like the abrogation of Article 370 and the realization of constructing a Ram temple in Ayodhya as key achievements.

On his part, Tawde emphasized that Jindal's inclusion would bolster the government's efforts towards enhancing the nation's economy and prosperity. He also noted Jindal's keen interest in sports and education. Similarly, Ranjit Chautala's induction into the BJP was acknowledged as a strength to the party, given his extensive political experience and previous support to the BJP-led government formation in Haryana post-2019 elections.

Reacting to these developments, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized Jindal's switch to BJP with a sarcastic remark on social media platform X. Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed confidence in BJP securing all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana and furthering India's development goals by 2047. The BJP has now finalized its list of candidates for Haryana, indicating a strategic move ahead of the upcoming elections.

Ranjit Chautala had previously hinted at his openness to contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections if offered a ticket by the BJP. His political stance was made clear when he was among the first to extend unconditional support to the BJP after it fell short of a majority in 2019. This political reshuffling follows after the dissolution of the alliance between BJP and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), founded by Dushyant Chautala and Ajay Chautala, earlier this month.

The BJP's clean sweep in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Haryana set a precedent, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah visiting Ranjit Singh Chautala's residence in Sirsa last year, indicating ongoing political engagements. These recent joinings underscore a dynamic shift in Haryana's political landscape as parties gear up for another electoral battle.
