Nationwide Hunger Strike Planned by Doctors Association to Support West Bengal Junior Doctors on October 9
The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has declared a nationwide hunger strike to support the protest against the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor in West Bengal. The strike is set to commence on Wednesday, marking two months since the incident at R G Kar Medical College on August 9.

FAIMA President Suvrankar Datta stated, "We have been in close contact with the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front and are united in our stance." He further explained that after thorough discussions, they decided to organise this hunger strike to show solidarity with their colleagues in West Bengal.
Nationwide Support for Junior Doctors
The association has urged healthcare workers nationwide to join the strike. This call aims to demonstrate unity among medical professionals in their pursuit of fair treatment and improved working conditions. FAIMA's statement highlighted the importance of collective action in advocating for these changes.
Datta stressed that the hunger strike seeks to amplify the voices of junior doctors who have been striking for weeks. Their demands include better working conditions, enhanced safety protocols, and other necessary reforms. The ongoing protest reflects a broader call for systemic changes within the healthcare sector.
FAIMA's decision underscores the growing frustration among medical professionals regarding safety and working conditions. By organising this hunger strike, they aim to draw national attention to these critical issues and push for meaningful reforms.
The protest has gained significant traction, with numerous healthcare workers expressing their support. The unity displayed by medical professionals across India highlights the urgency of addressing these concerns and ensuring a safer work environment for all.
This movement not only seeks justice for the victim but also aims to bring about lasting improvements in the healthcare system. As the hunger strike begins, it serves as a powerful reminder of the need for change and solidarity among those in the medical field.
