National Space Day 2024: Here Are The List Of Key Events To Celebrate India's Space Milestones
The Government of India is set to launch a month-long campaign to celebrate the inaugural National Space Day on August 23, 2024.
This special day will honour India's remarkable space missions and inspire the nation's youth with a theme that captures the spirit of exploration: "Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India's Space Saga."

Purpose of National Space Day
National Space Day has been officially designated to commemorate the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 mission's Vikram Lander at the 'Shiv Shakti' point on August 23, 2023, as reported by PIB. The day aims to recognize significant milestones in space exploration, highlight advancements in space technology, and foster a deeper interest in space science among students. It also serves to boost public awareness about the benefits of space exploration and cultivate national pride and unity.
National Space Day 2024: A Month-Long Celebration
The celebration of National Space Day will be marked by a series of engaging events across the country, designed to celebrate India's space achievements and inspire future generations:
1. Official Ceremonies and Presentations at Bharat Mandapam
A grand event at Bharat Mandapam will kick off the celebrations with high-profile sessions, panel discussions, and a vibrant cultural program. The event will feature a VVIP tour of space exhibits, significant announcements, and addresses from key figures including the Secretary of the Department of Space (DOS), the Chairman of ISRO, and the Chairman of IN-SPACe. Highlights will include a report on the socio-economic impact of India's space program, keynote speeches, and discussions on space-enabled governance and future roadmaps. The event will also showcase a Chandrayaan-3 film and a dance performance.

2. Space on Wheels: Showcasing ISRO's Vision
The "Space on Wheels" initiative will see mobile exhibition buses travelling to universities and colleges across India. This project, in collaboration with Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), aims to disseminate information about ISRO's activities and achievements. The exhibitions will feature detailed models of launch pads, missions like Chandrayaan-1 and Mangalyaan, and applications such as remote sensing and satellite communication. Interactive displays and hands-on experiences will engage and educate students and the general public.

3. ISRO Space Tutors: Engaging and Educating
ISRO's 120 registered Space Tutors will conduct outreach events nationwide, including talks, quizzes, and exhibitions. These tutors, supported by NGOs and educational institutions, will work to promote space education and foster scientific curiosity. Educational modules and digital content will complement traditional classroom learning, providing students with enriched knowledge in space science and technology.

4. Bharathiya Antariksh Hackathon
The Bharathiya Antariksh Hackathon, organized by ISRO, will challenge students to develop creative solutions to space-related problems. The competition will culminate in a finale where top teams will present their innovations. Exceptional students from the finale will be offered internships at ISRO centres, and the top three winners will showcase their applications during the National Space Day celebrations.
5. ISRO Robotics Challenge
The ISRO Robotics Challenge 2024 invites students to design and showcase robots for extraterrestrial environments. With a focus on space robotics, the challenge encourages teams to address real-world space robotics issues and develop future technologies. The competition will feature live demonstrations and culminate in an awards ceremony on National Space Day.

National Space Day 2024 aims to celebrate India's achievements in space and inspire the next generation to explore the cosmos. Join us throughout August as we commemorate India's space saga and look forward to new horizons in space exploration.
