PM Modi will continue 'Navratri' fast during US visit
A habit of 13 years, PM Modi will not consume anything in his six-day trip, except lemonade and tea, despite the recommendation of doctors to have fruits and juices.
Navratri is a 9-day festival in India, when goddess Durga is worshipped. Gujaratis observe fast during these days. This year, the fasting begins on September 25th and will end on October, two days after Modi would have reached India after his US visit.
However, the PM has assured that the fast would not affect the bilateral meetings that will be held with US President Barack Obama over breakfast.
An official from the PMO said,"He will only consume lemonade with some honey and a cup of tea every day. He has been fasting for the last four decades and does not want to change this pattern even while he is travelling."
He further added,"He wakes up at 4 a.m., meditates, prays and carries his own bottle of lemonade with him."
Millions of people fast during the 'Navratri', either having just one meal a day or having nothing like Narendra Modi.
