Narendra Modi salutes Shastri's courage, simplicity

New Delhi, Jan 11: Former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri's "courage and simplicity" endeared him to everyone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.

In a message to mark the death anniversary of Shastri, Modi tweeted: "His courage, integrity and simplicity endeared him to each and every citizen of our nation."

Shastri, who was prime minister from June 9, 1964 to January 11, 1966, died in Tashkent where he had gone to sign a peace pact in the wake of the 1965 India-Pakistan war.
