Modi hails the 'Mitra' in 'Mahajan'; elects Sumitra Mahajan as LS speaker

New Delhi, June 6: Sumitra Mahajan has been elected the uncontested

of the 16th Lok Sabha. She is also the second female speaker of the Lok Sabha after Meira Kumar.

Welcoming her to her seat were Proterm Speaker Kamal Nath, Narendra Modi, Mallikarjun Kharge. Modi, specifically hailed her for her contribution to the Indian Parliament and her tremendous hard work to reach in this position.

He said,"honourable Speaker, it is in your name itself to take everyone along with you and I believe that with the 'mitra' in you, the sessions from now on will be unanimous and productive with you heading it. You have come along a long journey, struggled a lot and I am happy that you are the second woman to guide and advise the largest Parliament in the world."

Former railway minister Mallikarjun Kharge elaborated saying that she will now represent the 'jan mahajan' in the Lok Sabha.
