Narada sting: Here are the TMC leaders under CBI scanner

The Supreme Court on Tuesday maintained that the Narada sting operation would be probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Following the order of the Calcutta high court which ordered the CBI probe, the West Bengal government, which is in the eye of the storm following this sting, moved the Supreme Court.

The sting operation had created a storm ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections 2016. It showed 12 TMC ministers and leaders accepting bribes. The sting came out at a time when several TMC members were also embroiled in the Saradha case.

Who were the leaders in the sting?

The sting showed ministers and leaders of the TMC allegedly taking bribes. The leaders were Mukul Roy, Subrata Mukherjee, Sultan Ahmed, Sugata Roy, Suvendhu Adhikari, Kakoli Ghosh Dastikar, Prasoon Banerjee, Suvon Chatterjee, Madan Mitra, Iqbal Ahmed and Farhad Hakim. The sting also showed M H Ahmed Mirza a senior police official accepting money and claiming that he had raised funds for the party.

Where does the sting operation stand?

The operation is currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The Calcutta high court had ordered a CBI probe while observing that the state police had behaved like puppets of the government. On Tuesday, the SC rejected an appeal challenging the HC order. The CBI has been given a month's time to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the matter and also file a first information report if appropriate material is found.
