Naihati Assembly By Elections 2024: Ex-TMC Ward President Shot To Death At Local Tea Shop
A Trinamool leader was killed in a violent attack in the Jagatdal area of North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday morning, amid the ongoing by-election to six assembly seats in West Bengal. Miscreants reportedly hurled bombs and fired bullets, leading to several incidents of violence being reported across the state.
"Ashok Sahu died from a bullet wound. He was an honest man and never involved in corrupt activities. The police know the real story behind this attack," said Sahu's brother.

Ashok Sahu, a former Trinamool Ward President, was sitting at a tea shop when he was targeted. He was seriously injured as bombs exploded and bullets were fired in Jagatdal, prompting his hospitalization.
"This is not the first attack on Ashok Sahu. In February 2023, he was also targeted. We have initiated an investigation to identify those responsible," Barrackpore Commissioner Alok Rajoria stated while visiting the scene.
The bypolls are being conducted under heightened security, with nearly 108 companies of CAPF deployed across various constituencies. While there is a significant security presence, reports of violence continue to emerge from different areas.
