Despite her desperate pleas for assistance, no one stopped to help. The accident occurred while they were on their way to school, leaving the child soaked in blood.

The grandmother, Mercy Xavier, described how the rickshaw driver was driving carefully when a speeding white car crashed into them. "I begged the car driver to take my baby to the hospital in his car. But he ran away," she said. The girl's mother later received a call from hospital staff about the accident and her mother's cries for help that went unanswered.

Accident Details and Immediate Response

The incident took place on February 17 near the Janakpuri Fire Station. Mercy Xavier and her granddaughter were thrown onto the road after the collision. Initially, they were taken to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital but later moved to a more advanced facility in Dwarka. Unfortunately, the young girl succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

A nurse, with the help of another person, eventually rushed the child to the hospital. The girl's mother lamented that if help had arrived sooner, the outcome might have been different. Neighbours described the child as cheerful and noted that her grandmother regularly took her to school.

Investigation and Community Reaction

The police have seized the vehicle involved in the accident and apprehended its driver, identified as Sanjeev. They are recording witness statements and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras to piece together what happened. An officer confirmed these steps are part of their ongoing investigation.

This tragic event follows another recent accident in Janakpuri, where a 25-year-old biker died after falling into a pit dug by the Delhi Jal Board on February 5-6. The community is still reeling from these incidents, highlighting concerns over road safety in the area.

Georgina, a neighbour, shared fond memories of the young girl, mentioning how she lived with her parents and grandparents and had an older sister. "We've seen her -- she was very cheerful," Georgina said.

The accident has sparked discussions about road safety and emergency response times in Delhi. Residents are calling for better measures to prevent such tragedies and ensure timely assistance for those in need.
