Muslims celebrate Eid in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, July 29: Muslims in Kerala today celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr where men and women congregated in large numbers in mosques and 'Eid gahs' in towns and villages, where religious scholars led prayers and gave out the message of love, compassion and fraternity.

In most places, preachers referred to Israel's assault in Gaza and took out solidarity marches after the prayers. Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan and Indian Union Muslim League leader Panakkad Sayid Hyderali Shihab Thangal greeted people on the occasion.

Cultural and religious organisations organised Ramzan relief and charity programmes throughout the state.
