Bizarre: Muslim woman gets divorce after voting for BJP in Assam

Guwahati, Apr 16: In a rare case, a Muslim man in Assam has reportedly divorced his wife after she voted for BJP in the recently concluded assembly elections in the state.

According to report, Ainuddin, a resident of Donam Addahati village in Sonitpur district divorced his wife Dilwara Begum who defied village diktat to vote for Congress.

She casted her vote in favour of BJP candidate Pramod Borathakur.

His decision for divorce came after his wife revealed him that she had voted for the BJP.
The village elders had decided to vote Congress, report claimed.

Assembly elections in Assam concluded on April 11.

Assam witnessed a voter turnout of almost 85 per cent. This has been the highest-ever polling in any form of election in the state.
