Muslim Reservation Is Social Justice, Not Appeasement: Nara Lokesh

Nara Lokesh, a prominent leader in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the son of Chandrababu Naidu, has outlined the party's main goals and strategies after their clean sweep in the AP Assembly elections. TDP secured 16 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra and played a key role in helping NDA stake claim to form the government at the Centre for third consecutive time.

Speaking to NDTV, Lokesh highlighted TDP's dedication to creating job opportunities and improving the lives of marginalised communities in Andhra Pradesh.

On Muslim reservation

Despite BJP's strong opposition, TDP intends to continue the reservation policy for Muslims. Lokesh defended this decision by explaining that the policy aims at achieving social justice rather than appeasement, noting that minorities in the state have the lowest per capita income.

He emphasised the need for inclusive development, ensuring that all communities benefit from the state's progress and no group is left behind.

In the wake of Chandrababu Naidu's arrest, Lokesh took on a significant leadership role, undertaking a 4,000-kilometre 'padayatra' to connect with the public and strengthen the party's presence.

On claims of vendetta politics

Lokesh condemned his father's arrest as an instance of vendetta politics, asserting that the rule of law should be impartial and applied equally to all individuals.

Lokesh dismissed reports that the TDP was seeking key positions in PM Modi's new cabinet.

"TDP never negotiates when it comes for post, we only negotiate for funds for the state. We don't ask for ministries. Our interest is the state's interest," Mr Lokesh told NDTV.

"Strong states make strong nations. We want to be part of a $5 trillion economy dream. We believe that Andhra alone can be a $1 trillion economy. Look forward to working with NDA," he concluded.
