Dismissed RPF Constable Allegedly Guns Down Four Persons in Mumbai Train
A dismissed Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, Chetansinh Chaudhary, is accused of fatally shooting a senior colleague and three passengers on board a moving Mumbai-bound express train. After the incident, his wife claims he called her expressing regret and contemplating suicide.
In a chilling incident that took place on July 31, dismissed Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Chetansinh Chaudhary allegedly shot four individuals aboard a train near Mumbai. Among the victims was a senior colleague of his. Following this horrific act, Chaudhary reportedly telephoned his wife Priyanka and confessed to having committed an egregious mistake. He then asked her whether he should take his own life as well.

According to the statement given by Priyanka to the police, which is included in the case's chargesheet, Chaudhary called her at around 6:30 am on the day of the shooting incident and informed her about his murderous act. In an apparent state of distress and regret, he said "Maine teen logon ko, aur ek SI sub-inspector to maar dia hai…Mujse badi galti hogai hai..tum bolo toh apne AAP ko goli maar doon kia…I have killed three people and SI.. Have made a big mistake…shall I shoot myself too?". She urged him to surrender before law enforcement authorities.
The Case
The Government Railway Police (GRP), who are investigating this case, filed a chargesheet against Chetan Chaudhary on October 20 in front of a magistrate’s court. The charges include murder under section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), promoting enmity between different groups under IPC section 153-A among others along with relevant provisions from Railways Act and Maharashtra Prevention Of Defacement of Property Act.
Background
Priyanka provided further background information about her husband in her statement. After losing his father while still studying in Class 10th , he joined RPF on compensatory grounds and was initially posted in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. He was later transferred to Gujarat and then Mumbai. However, his transfer to Mumbai had reportedly left him disturbed as he desired a posting in either Mathura or Agra.
Health Issues
Priyanka also revealed that Chaudhary had been suffering from a blood clot in the brain for which he was taking medication. His mother noticed his abnormal behavior during her visit to Porbandar earlier this year where she found him blabbering without any reason and banging his head against the wall. Following these incidents, he was taken to a neurosurgeon who diagnosed him with minor blood clotting in his brain.
The Incident
Chetansinh Chaudhary allegedly committed the murders aboard the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express near Palghar railway station on July 31. After killing four people, including RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Tika Ram Meena, he threatened another passenger by saying "chant "jai mata di or I’ll shoot you". The train came to an abrupt halt near Mira Road station after passengers pulled the chain of the train following which Chaudhary was apprehended along with his weapon.
In conclusion, this horrific incident has sent shockwaves across India's rail network as well as among its citizens. The chargesheet contains statements from several witnesses including co-passengers of the ill-fated train where this gruesome act took place. As investigations continue into what led an RPF constable to commit such a dreadful act, it is hoped that justice will be served swiftly for those whose lives were tragically cut short.
