Key Voter Demographics

Among the registered voters, there is a balanced distribution of 38,94,180 male voters and 33,33,422 female voters. Additionally, the district acknowledges the inclusivity of 801 transgender individuals, ensuring their participation in the democratic process.

Furthermore, the district recognizes the importance of catering to vulnerable groups. There are 14,113 registered voters with disabilities (PwD), and a significant number of 1,01,673 voters above the age of 85, including 4,632 centenarians who are 100 years of age or older.

Accessible Voting Facilities

To ensure an inclusive and accessible voting experience, separate teams will be formed to assist voters with disabilities. The Election Commission has introduced a thoughtful initiative to provide ballot paper facility at home for PwD voters and those above the age of 85. This provision aims to empower these individuals to exercise their franchise conveniently and without any hindrance.

The district administration has proactively reached out to senior citizens and certified handicapped voters, informing them about this convenient option. However, it is emphasized that availing this facility remains at the sole discretion of each voter.

Encouraging Voter Participation

Recognizing the inspiring impact of senior citizens exercising their franchise, the district administration believes their participation can motivate others to follow suit. To further encourage voter turnout, Collector and District Election Officer Rajendra Kshirsagar has personally written and sent around 4,000 letters to prominent figures in the entertainment industry residing in the suburban district.

Notably, veteran actor Jitendra has already responded positively and urged voters to participate in large numbers. Efforts are underway to engage superstar Aamir Khan and singer Kailash Kher to amplify this message and inspire citizens to fulfil their democratic duty.

Polling Infrastructure and Preparations

The Mumbai suburban district will have 7,363 polling stations set up at 1,083 locations, along with 27 auxiliary booths for areas with over 1,500 voters. Over 44,000 polling personnel will be deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.

The district has already completed the first level checking of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in August-September 2023, ensuring their readiness for the upcoming polls. An integrated control room has been established to address any concerns or complaints related to the elections. Citizens can reach out by dialling 1950 or 18002166090, or by using the Cvigil app.

Adherence to Election Guidelines

Collector Kshirsagar convened a meeting with representatives of political parties to provide instructions on adhering to the model code of conduct and other relevant guidelines. A three-level single window system has been implemented to facilitate candidates in obtaining various permissions.

The district administration has also taken proactive steps to remove 12,290 banners and posters from various locations, ensuring a clutter-free environment for the upcoming elections.

Maharashtra's Lok Sabha Polls

Maharashtra, with its 48 Lok Sabha seats, will participate in a five-phase voting process commencing on April 19. The Mumbai suburban district, with its substantial voter base and diverse demographics, plays a crucial role in shaping the electoral outcome of the state.
