The tragic event claimed the lives of three workers and left one in critical condition. The authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident and filed a case against the contractor, site engineer, and another individual involved in the project.

In a heart-wrenching incident that occurred on Tuesday in Mumbai's Borivali suburb, a portion of scaffolding collapsed at a 24-story under-construction building, resulting in the deaths of three workers and critical injuries to another.

Scaffolding Collapse Leads to Fatal Accident

The incident took place at Kalpana Chawla Chowk in the Soni Wadi area of Borivali. According to civic officials, the scaffolding from the 16th floor of the building gave way, causing four workers to fall and sustain severe injuries. They were rushed to the nearby Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, where three of them were unfortunately pronounced dead, while the fourth victim remains in critical condition.

Rescue Efforts and Investigation

Upon receiving news of the accident, two fire engines along with personnel from the fire brigade, police, and civic body swiftly arrived at the scene. The deceased workers were identified as Manoranjan Samatdar (42), Shankar Baidya (26), and Piyush Haldhar (42), while the injured worker, Sushil Gupta (36), is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU.

Discrepancies in Accident Details

While civic officials provided one account of the incident, a police officer offered a different version. According to the police, the accident occurred during RCC work at the construction site when four workers were shifting a concrete platform to upper floors. Tragically, they fell into a duct on the ground floor from the 16th level.

Eyewitness Account

Raja Babu, a laborer at the same building, shared his perspective on the incident. He stated that the four workers collapsed while working, and three of them succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

Legal Action Initiated

Hours after the accident, the Borivali police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against three individuals, including the contractor of the under-construction building. The case was filed against contractor Saroj Kumar Chakrapani Salla (35), site engineer Dhananjay Vijay Parab (29), and foreman Rahul alias Liton Badal Biswas (35).

Police Statement and Ongoing Investigation

Senior Inspector Neenad Sawant provided further details about the incident and the legal proceedings. He stated, "Three laborers died and another was seriously injured in an accident while carrying out construction work in a dangerous place. We have registered an FIR against three persons, including the building's contractor, under IPC sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others). Further investigation is underway."
