Mumbai: Businessman undergoes artificial heart implant for Rs 90 lakh
After successful operation it was proved that there is another way to treat heart failure. The device helps existing heart to work better.
A mumbai-based 49-year-old businessman Doshi who was suffering from lung tuberculosis was bedridden for the past six months due to heart failure. He was the first patient in Mumbai to get a Rs 90 lakh implant to help his heart beat normally.

Doshi got a massive heart attack five years ago and that had triggered heart failure. He completely lost 30 kg and was barely able to stand.
Heart surgeon Dr Anvay Mulay who operated on Doshi said that usually the heart transplants are at least three times cheaper and considered the best treatment for heart failure since Doshi had complication of lung tuberculosis it was a difficult choice for them.
Doshi had to implement with expensive left ventricular assist device to his heart. Incidentally, a woman who was fitted with LVAD nine months back had passed away a few days ago.
After the successful operation, it was proved that there is another way to treat heart failure. The device helps existing heart to work better.
LVADs aren't popular because of the cost, but they help patients. The device is a mechanical pump that is implanted inside a person's chest to help a weakened heart pump blood.
