PM Modi To Assess Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Work In Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Gujarat on Saturday to assess the progress of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. This ambitious venture, known as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR), represents India's stride towards high-speed connectivity. The project spans approximately 508 km, with 352 km in Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and 156 km in Maharashtra.

The corridor will link key cities such as Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai. This marks a significant advancement in India's transportation infrastructure. The project employs advanced engineering techniques that meet international standards. Notably, 85% of the route is constructed on viaducts to ensure minimal land disturbance and enhanced safety.

Progress and Impact of MAHSR

To date, 326 km of viaduct work has been completed along with 17 out of 25 river bridges. Once finished, the bullet train will cut travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to about two hours. This will transform inter-city travel by making it faster and more comfortable. The project is anticipated to boost business activities and tourism along the corridor.

The Surat-Bilimora section covers around 47 km and is nearing completion. Civil works and track-bed laying are fully completed in this segment. The design of the Surat station takes inspiration from the city's famous diamond industry. It combines elegance with functionality while prioritising passenger comfort.

Features of Surat Station

The Surat station includes spacious waiting lounges, restrooms, and retail outlets for passenger convenience. It also offers seamless multi-modal connectivity with the Surat Metro, city buses, and Indian Railways network. This integration aims to enhance commuter experience by providing easy access to various modes of transport.

Upon completion, this high-speed rail project is expected to catalyse regional development by boosting economic activity along its route. It symbolises a transformative step in India's infrastructure landscape by significantly enhancing connectivity between major urban centres.
