Muharram 2025: One Dead, Three Critical Due To Electrocution

In Jharkhand's Giridih district, a tragic incident occurred during preparations for a Muharram procession on July 6. One person died and three others were injured after being electrocuted. The accident happened around 11:30 am in Chakosingha, under the Ghodthambha Police Outpost, which is about 200 km from Ranchi.

The electrocution took place when the top part of a 'Tazia' accidentally made contact with a live high-tension wire. Giridih Deputy Commissioner Ramnivas Yadav confirmed this unfortunate event during the setup for the procession.

Immediate Medical Attention and Investigation

The three injured individuals were quickly taken to a hospital in Giridih for medical care. Local authorities have promised necessary support, and an investigation into the safety oversight is expected to follow.

To ensure a peaceful Muharram observance, Jharkhand police have increased security measures throughout the state. Drones, CCTV cameras, and security personnel are strategically positioned, especially in sensitive areas. On Saturday, flag marches were conducted in key districts like Ranchi to maintain public order.

Traffic and Security Measures During Muharram Procession in Ranchi

In Ranchi, traffic restrictions were enforced on several routes starting at 10:00 am on Sunday to accommodate Muharram processions. Areas such as Albert Ekka Chowk, Daily Market, Urdu Library, Anjuman Plaza, Akra Masjid, Karbala Chowk, Bikrant Chowk, and Church Road experienced significant police presence.

The Ranchi administration declared Sunday a 'dry day,' requiring all liquor shops, bars, clubs, and alcohol manufacturing units to close. Authorities are also vigilantly monitoring social media to prevent any provocative content from spreading.

Parallel Festivity Management

Alongside Muharram preparations, security arrangements were also made for the Ghurti Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath's return procession. This highlights the administration's ability to manage multiple religious events simultaneously. Ranchi City SP Ajit Kumar confirmed that comprehensive security protocols were established to maintain peace and order.
