MP: Cop stay mum as couple get stripped and paraded

Dhar (MP), Oct 16: In a horrifying incident in the Dhar district of

, a married woman and her lover were tied to the pole and thrashed brutally, before being stripped, blackened and paraded in three villages.

To add to the shame, the villagers tied plastic bags with manures in the lower parts of their bodies and asked to parade the three villages-Khokariya, Balwari and Baydipur-in the Balwari Panchayat. According to eyewitness, the man was also forced to beat the drums while doing so.

Surprisingly, the police sat mum, refusing to intervene even the couple approached them.

"We have not received any complaint. A couple did come to us but villagers who came after them adviced us that police should not interfere as it was an internal matter of the village," said Mukesh Izardar, the Thana Incharge.

It is said that the women of the three villages also participated in issuing the 'Kangaroo justice' to the couple for what is termed as 'promiscuity' on part of the woman.

As he drama unfolded to a horrendous extent, people gathered around the couple humiliating them to a greater extent. A local newspaper intimated the MP Women's Commission regarding the same and the latter promised to take stern action against those guilty.
