MP Congress Leaders Present Rs 5 Lakh Piggybank to Children of Couple Who Committed Suicide
Congress leaders have extended financial support to the children of a couple who died by suicide in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district. The couple had accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and some BJP members of harassment. The leaders presented a Rs 5 lakh piggybank to the children, aligning with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's sentiments. The children had previously gifted their piggybank to Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra visit.

The tragic incident involved businessman Manoj Parmar and his wife Neha, who were found hanging at their home in Ashta town. A suicide note attributed to Manoj surfaced on social media, alleging harassment by the ED and BJP leaders. He also requested Gandhi and other Congress leaders to look after his children. State minister Prahlad Singh Patel dismissed these allegations.
Congress Leaders' Gesture
Former minister Sajjan Singh Verma, along with state Congress media department chairman Mukesh Nayak and other party members, visited Ashta town to meet the children. They handed over the Rs 5 lakh piggybank as a gesture of support. Verma stated that the Congress is committed to supporting the children during this difficult time, including taking responsibility for their education and other needs.
The ED had conducted searches on December 5 at four locations in Sehore and Indore districts related to Parmar and others under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. These searches targeted residential premises of individuals linked to a bank fraud case, where incriminating documents were reportedly found.
Investigation Details
The ED's investigation stemmed from an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Parmar and a senior branch manager of Punjab National Bank (PNB). The agency claimed that these individuals were either beneficiaries or had assisted in a bank fraud case involving proceeds of crime.
Congress leaders criticised the ruling BJP for politicising the issue instead of showing empathy towards the grieving children. They highlighted that during Gandhi's foot march, the children had affectionately been referred to as the "gullak team" after gifting him their piggybank.
The situation has drawn attention to the alleged misuse of power by authorities and political figures, as claimed by the deceased couple. The Congress party's gesture aims to provide some relief and assurance to the affected family amidst ongoing investigations.
