After much speculations, Mumbai Monsoon 2018 has finally arrived on June 9. Moderate to heavy rains have been lashing the city since Friday night.
The IMD's bulletin on Sunday predicted that Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into most parts of Central Arabian Sea, most parts of Konkan, some more parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Northwest Bay of Bengal.
''Conditions are becoming favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, some parts of West Bengal Sikkim, remaining parts of northwest Bay of Bengal and Northeastern States during next 48 hours. Conditions are likely to become favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of West Bengal, Odisha and some parts of Jharkhand and Bihar during the subsequent 48 hours,'' it added.
According to the IMD's prediction on distribution of rainfall this monsoon, Heavy rain at a few places with very heavy rain at isolated places very likely over south Konkan Goa heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over north Konkan, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram Tripura,Vidarbha and Gangetic West Bengal; heavy rain at few places over coastal Karnataka and isolated places over Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Assam Meghalaya, Odisha, south Madhya Maharashtra, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala. It also predicted that Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds and lightning very likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh Delhi, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh.
