Mohammed Shami Ordered to Pay ₹4 Lakh Monthly to Estranged Wife, Daughter
The Calcutta High Court has directed Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami to pay a total of ₹4 lakh per month as maintenance to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, and their daughter. The decision was issued on July 1 by a bench headed by Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee.
According to the court order, Shami must pay ₹1.5 lakh to his wife and ₹2.5 lakh to their daughter every month. The bench observed that the amount is "just, fair, and reasonable" to ensure financial stability for both.

"In my considered opinion, a sum of ₹1,50,000/- per month to the petitioner no.1 (wife) and ₹2,50,000/- to her daughter would be just fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners," the court said in its judgment.
The court also clarified that Shami is free to voluntarily contribute to additional expenses, including education and medical care, beyond the specified amount.
Background of the Case
Hasin Jahan had approached the High Court to challenge a 2023 district sessions court order, which had earlier directed Shami to pay ₹50,000 to her and ₹80,000 to their daughter monthly. Jahan had sought ₹7 lakh per month for herself and ₹3 lakh for her daughter, arguing that the previous order was inadequate to meet their living and educational needs.
Marriage, Allegations, and Fallout
Hasin Jahan, a former model and IPL cheerleader, married Shami in 2014. The couple welcomed their daughter in 2015. However, the relationship deteriorated, and in 2018, Jahan made serious allegations against Shami, including:
Domestic violence
Dowry harassment
Match-fixing, claiming he received money from a Pakistani woman
Financial neglect
The allegations led the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to temporarily suspend Shami's central contract. However, after an internal probe, the BCCI cleared him of all match-fixing charges.
What the Court's Order Means
The High Court's ruling is a significant development in the long-standing legal and personal battle between Shami and Hasin Jahan. It not only increases the monthly support amount but also underscores the court's view that the cricketer must take financial responsibility for his wife and daughter.
The judgment ensures financial security for Jahan and her daughter while leaving open the possibility of additional voluntary support from Shami for education or emergencies.
