A Muslim youth named Mohammed Shabbir set his Hindu friend on fire after he applied Holi to him. The incident occurred at Marpally of Regonda in Medak in Hyderabad on Tuesday during holi celebrations at SC Wada, The Times of India reported.

The victim identified as B Ambadas alias Anjaiah suffered serious burns, but he is out of danger. The report claims that he applied the colors against the Muslim's youth's will that enraged him to set him on fire.

"Shabbir asked Ambadas not to smear him with colour. When the latter insisted, Shabbir warned saying that he will pour petrol on Ambadas if he applies colour," the daily quoted the police as saying.

The report claimed that Shabbir felt humiliated after Ambadas, a labourer, applied colour on him. The victim ignored Shabbir's warning probably because he thought he might be joking. He then left the spot and returned with a bottle of kerosene.

"Shabbir lit the match and set his friend ablaze. Shocked villagers doused the flames," the official said.

Ambadas was shifted to Osmania General Hospital. The report states that he suffered 40% burns and his condition is stable. The cops have filed the case under Section 307 of the IPC and Shabbir has been arrested.

However, the cops have ruled out the communal angle to the story. Notably, both Shabbir and B Ambadas were friends.

In another incident, a man with his family members were arrested for making casteist abuses against a woman during Holi celebration, a report in The Times of India said.

The complaint has been filed against Shailesh Zala, his mother, wife Bhavani and sister Bhavana.

According to the complaint, Zala with his friends was playing Holi on March 7 and her mother asked them not to make noise. However, he got enraged, tore her clothes and molested the woman when she went to talk with him.

He and his family members hurled casteist slurs against them and tried to character assassinate her. The complainant claims that the lower caste people should not be staying in their society.

A case has been booked under relevant sections of IPC and SC/ST Atrocities Act, the report said.
