Modi's speeches on Independence Day average 82 minutes, significantly longer than those of his predecessors. The previous longest speech before Modi was given by Jawaharlal Nehru, lasting 72 minutes, while both Nehru and Indira Gandhi delivered the shortest recorded speeches of just 14 minutes in 1954 and 1966, respectively.

In this year's speech, Modi focused on the theme "Viksit Bharat 2047," highlighting the collective aspirations and dreams of Indian citizens.

He stated, "For Viksit Bharat 2047, we invited suggestions from the countrymen. The many suggestions we received reflect the dreams and aspirations of our citizens. When the people of the nation have such big dreams, it takes our self-confidence to newer heights and we become more resolute."

Addressing the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, Modi emphasized the importance of women's safety, saying, "The country, society, State Governments will have to take this seriously. Speedy investigation of crimes against women, those executing these monstrous deeds be awarded strict punishment at the earliest - this is important to instill confidence in society."

He also declared this period as a golden era for India, outlining various plans for development, economic reforms, and the empowerment of the youth.

Touching on a wide range of issues, from natural disaster management to the implementation of a secular civil code and maternity leave for working women, Modi covered topics of national importance.

In a pointed remark aimed at the opposition, Modi said, "We are moving forward with resolution but there are some people who cannot see progress or think of India's good unless it benefits them...The country needs to protect itself from this handful of pessimistic people."
